One Will Die… Like You Care

secondcoming_onewilldie_super

Take a look at the newest teaser from Marvel.

“One Will Die…” is that supposed to entice somebody into reading this book? How many of the X-Men have died at this point? That’s a rhetorical question, because I know the answer, and the answer is ALL OF THEM.

How is this something that sells comics? Characters dying? It’s a fucking joke. You know it as well as I do. Here’s your options.

  1. Major character dies, is resurrected 2 years later, at most.
  2. Minor character dies, is resurrected 10 years later, at most.

That’s it. End of story. Screw you, Marvel.

I’m Busy, Here’s a Couple of Videos

The title says it all.

First, I can’t stop watching this. It’s hilarious.

Second, here’s a link. I have no idea what this is but it looks pretty sweet. It’d be nice to see Marvel put out a show that’s more adult themed, like Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.

Am I just the worst blogger ever today? Yes, yes I am .

Spider-M4n Director Named

Yup, I wrote that. Spider-M4n. That’s what I’m calling it now. Uh… Ironically.

So anyway, Spider-M4n got a director today, and he seems like a great choice. Really. A fantastic pick. From The Hollywood Reporter,

Marc Webb has finalized a deal to helm the new “Spider-Man” movie for Columbia.

Webb, who has options on two sequels, will now tackle a Jamie Vanderbilt script that sees a “Spider-Man” movie that will look and feel very different from the big movies that went before it.

The plan for the movie is to be in the $80 million range and feature a cast of relative unknowns (so you can quash those Rob Pattinson or Gordon-Levitt rumors at this point). And the story will be pared down to center on a high school kid who is dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though the teen had the power to stop it.

The touchstone for the new movie will not be the 1960s comics, which were the inspiration behind the movies by Raimi, who grew on up on them, but rather this past decade’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley where the villain-fighting took a back seat to the high school angst.

Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin are producing the new movie, which will begin production this year.

Well that’s just lovely. Hugs all around.

So Raimi got pushed out because Sony wanted to use their own script, like they did with Spid3r-Man (which worked out well, don’t you agree?) and now they’ve hired a well known director to take the series in a new direction. An angsty new direction. Hey! I’ve got an idea! Let’s take a look at Marc Webb’s other directing credits, just for a laugh.

  1. (500) Days of Summer (2009)
  2. Jesse McCartney: Up Close (2005) (V)
  3. Seascape (2003)
  4. 3 Doors Down: Away from the Sun (2002) (V) (video “Duck & Run”)
  5. Green Day: International Supervideos! (2001) (V) (video “Waiting”)

So there you go. I’ve heard good things about (500) Days of Summer. I don’t have a vagina hidden away in my pants, so I won’t be seeing it, but still. I know we can expect good things from the director of a Green Day video.

Alright, so here’s the deal. Sony hired some limpwristed newcomer who’s going to lay back and take it no matter how freaky Sony gets. Yay. And look, I love the Ultimate Spider-Man books, but that doesn’t mean jack. All that says is that Sony wants to stick Peter back in high school to play to the Twilight crowd. Expect nothing good to come of this. Nothing.

DC Desperately Tries to Recreate Past Success

Break out the disco balls and roller skates, because DC’s gonna be shakin’ it old school in 2010. Several announcements were made this week concerning DC’s plans for the new year. It seems many classic series and characters will be returning to the spotlight, and I can’t even pretend that I care.

First up, DC announced today that they will be releasing a new Teen Titans original graphic novel by Marv Wolfman and George Perez called “Teen Titans: Games” this year.

That is really exciting news for fans of the 80’s iteration of the Teen Titans. And absolutely no one else. No really, DC, great idea. I get it. Everyone loves nostalgia, and a revisit to the 80’s Titans will probably make some scratch.

Hit the jump for the rest.

(from Newsarama)

BAM! Suck on that, DC! I think Marvel just dropped a knowledge bomb on ya’ll that they ain’t scared.

Alright, enough faux-ghetto speak. I can’t keep it up long or it starts to worm it’s way into my regular vocabulary, and then I’ll have to kill myself. You don’t want that, do you? DO YOU!?!

I find this move both vicious and hilarious. It’s probably in response to DC’s Blackest Night promo. If you haven’t heard of it (which you have), DC gave out Blackest Night power ring replicas based on the amount of orders retailers placed for their low and mid sellers. The point being, DC convinced alot of retailers to over order on shitty books which are now sitting around collecting dust. And Marvel is willing to give them a shitty variant for them. Man, I hope they get a ton. And then flaunt them mercilessly.

Marvel 1, DC 0.
